WELCOME TO PARADISE

The furthest dive site on the Rainbow Reef, Dakuniba Pass is a steep sloping reef with a great chance to see larger animals, including grey reef sharks, eagle rays, trevally and schooling pickhandle barracuda. A nearby channel creates varying conditions where marine life can thrive. Whip corals, sea fans and healthy hard corals are the main attraction closer to the lively seafloor. Currents can be fairly strong so stick closer to the reef to avoid being swept into the blue until the safety stop.

Stunning wall dive with various large animals including grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, schooling barracuda and bigeye trevally. Divers stop briefly at the beginning part of the first wall section to observe the roaming reef sharks and schooling barracuda and trevally. The deep wall portions of the dive slowly change into a sloping reef with beautiful hard corals. This dive site is famous for bigger marine animals so keep your eyes in the blue looking for sharks and the occasional eagle rays. Visibility is usually excellent and the conditions are fairly easy even with a moderate to strong current.

A dive site discovered by our own lovely female Divemaster Ane. The beginning part of the dive has larger coral bommies in amongst a large sandy area. These bommies create little oases of life, hosting a large variety of schooling anthias, damselfish and many more. The surrounding sandy areas offer habitat to many little critters like garden eels, gobies, and lucky divers can sometimes spot whitetip reef sharks and stingrays laying down at the bottom. Great dive site to take it easy and go slow exploring the cracks and crevices of the bommies. Further down the reef you can find a large overhang with interesting marine life such as lionfish and nudibranchs.

A dive site located on the other side of Annie’s Bommie, the Corner is a sloping reef curving around a beautiful reef top. Cruise along a gentle slope filled with schooling fusiliers, surgeonfish and parrotfish. Halfway through divers can explore around a larger coral bommie in the deeper sand flat next to the main reef. Whitetip reef sharks are often seen resting on the bottom. Depending on the speed of the divers, you can finish the dive around the other side of the reef where hawksbill turtles are sometimes seen drifting with the current. Many smaller critters including juvenile blue ribbon eels, flatworms and nudibranchs are also seen in amongst the healthy hard corals.

An interesting wall dive with great soft corals and countless smaller schools of fish. The route takes divers past many lively coral heads while cruising next to a steep wall, dropping down to the depths of 50+ metres. Many interesting fish species can be found here including schooling bannerfish and batfish, hovering above the healthy coral reef. Lucky divers can also get a glimpse of eagle rays and reef sharks passing by the deep wall sections. Changing currents can force divers to turn around half way through the dive and finish the dive on top of the reef, sheltered from the current.

Named after the Fijian word for “Sand” this dive site is a sloping reef with many little sandy areas and very healthy hard corals. A dive site for macro enthusiasts, Nuku offers a great chance to see many little critters. The changing seascape and varying topography create a huge amount of habitat for many animals. Different species of nudibranchs, anemonefish, moray eels and many more can be found in amongst the coral at Nuku. Like many other sites, whitetip reef sharks often patrol the reef as well.

The only pinnacle dive site on the Rainbow Reef. The Ledge is a large pinnacle in the middle of the Somosomo strait. It gets its name from the large overhang or “Ledge” on the West side of the pinnacle. One of the prettiest sites on the Rainbow Reef, the Ledge hosts a variety of different hard corals and blooming soft corals. Many schooling fish can be found here as well and there’s a resident school of black snapper usually around.

A beautiful, shallow sloping reef with one of the best hard coral coverage the Rainbow Reef has to offer. This site offers easy and calm conditions, great for beginner divers or people who like to go slow and enjoy the overall scenery. Marine life includes many fish species such as gobies, butterflyfish, groupers and angelfish. Explore the occasional bigger coral heads and look for moray eels and mantis shrimp. Slowly shallow up and end the dive on the picturesque reef top.

Another great site with a chance to see more large animals. A sloping reef with a few larger bommies and passageways through the lively and healthy coral reef. Divers are often greeted by schooling pickhandle and yellowtail barracuda, sometimes forming large tornados for divers to swim through. Keep your eyes peeled for grey reef sharks and hawksbill turtles as well. You end the dive on the shallow reef top, enjoying a stunning display of colourful anthias, damselfish, parrotfish and countless more.

One of the more famous sites on the Rainbow Reef, Cabbage patch is named after the large, beautiful patch of foliose hard coral, that resembles a field of “Cabbage”. Divers slowly drift along a sloping reef reaching down to 20m. The reef offers some of the best hard corals on the Rainbow Reef and is a favourite for many photographers. Like many other sites, you don’t have to look far for hundreds of schooling fish and plenty of little critters. Nudibranchs, flatworms and moray eels are a common sighting along the reef. When admiring the stunning patch of “Cabbage” coral, look closely in between the plates of coral to spot many little critters and fish, but remember to adjust your buoyancy in order not to damage the fragile coral.

“JJ” offers some great diving with two large bommies being the main attraction of the dive. A fantastic site for experiencing the best that the Rainbow Reef has to offer. The dive starts by dropping down on the main two bommies, covered with colourful schooling anthias and other smaller fish species. A resident pair of yellow/white leaf scorpionfish can be found swaying back and forth with the current on the side of the main bommie. The surrounding reef has some great attractions as well, ranging from a large blanket of anemones to moray eels and our keen eyed dive guides have also spotted the elusive Golden Mantis Shrimp here. Take your time exploring the area and finish the dive drifting out into the blue. Great site for wide angle photographers.

A sloping reef with many smaller, frequent coral bommies and a stunning reef top. Divers often drop down on “Jerry’s Jelly” and drift over to Sam’s Point. Home to many smaller critters like blue ribbon eels, leaf scorpionfish and mantis shrimp. The reef comes alive when the outgoing tide hits the reef bringing out the blooming soft corals and an array of schooling fish. Whitetip reef sharks can often be seen sleeping on the sandy areas next to the reef and other larger animals such as dogtooth tuna are sometimes seen cruising by. Divers occasionally end the dive drifting over the reef to the other side experiencing an exhilarating flight over the buzzing reef top.

Aptly named after the several resident blue ribbon eels that are found peeking out of their burrows on the side of the reef. The reef is a gentle slope with the occasional sandy area in between the vibrant coral fields. Another pair of resident leaf scorpionfish is often seen sitting on top of the many little bommies. Remember to approach all marine animals slowly and carefully to not scare them away. In addition to the smaller critters, whitetip reef sharks are a common sighting here, napping on the deeper sand flats. Other larger fish species like spanish mackerel and napoleon wrasse are often seen swimming near the reef as well. Depending on the speed of the current and divers, you can end the dive on the other side of the reef, sheltered from the current.

The other side of “Rainbow’s End”, Rainbow Passage offers similar conditions and marine life. Depending on the direction and strength of the current the dive guides will decide which way to go. A Sloping reef, teeming with life, this site has it all. Various schooling fish, interesting macro and the occasional large animals. Look closely and you might find juvenile blue ribbon eels, leaf scorpionfish and the gorgeous banded sea snakes. Similar entry to “Rainbow’s End”, divers drop in from the deep and drift onto the reef, also ending the dive on the other side of the reef, sheltered from the current.

One of the most popular dive sites, Rainbow’s End offers fantastic scenery and the essence of the Rainbow Reef. A slightly steeper sloping reef, covered in healthy hard corals and the world famous colourful soft corals. When dived at the right time, the incoming tide brings the nutrient rich waters onto the reef, making it explode with marine life. Adjust your buoyancy and drift gently with the current enjoying the thousands of schooling fish and amazing coral coverage. Highlights include hunting giant trevally, hawksbill turtles, whitetip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse and many more. The dive starts by dropping in further in the blue and letting the current push you towards the reef. Depending on the current and conditions, you might cross over to the other side of the reef to end the dive.

The Wairiki Mission is historical Catholic mission with beautiful stained glass windows a short walk from the resort. Visitors to Fiji are welcome to attend the Sunday services with wonderful singing and inspiring atmosphere.
